South Tahoe track competes at Reed Rotary Invite, Brosch wins 300 hurdles

SPARKS, Nev. — The South Tahoe track and field team squared off against the top schools in Northern Nevada last weekend — and delivered a handful of strong individual results. The Vikings took 39 athletes to the Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational at Reed High last Friday Saturday, highlighted by sophomore Maya Brosch winning the 300 hurdles.

Brosch won the 300 hurdles with a season-best time of 46.68. The victory marked her third in the event this season and eighth overall — at the Rotary Invite she also placed second in the 200 (27.20).

Freshman Ally Sullivan took second in the 3,200, running a 12:11.35. She was also part of the Vikings' 4×800 relay team that took 11th with a time of 11:40.28 and included senior Cara Filce, senior Lauren Tang and freshman Allee Zaccor.

Two other STHS girls raced to top-15 finishes at the invitational. Senior Kimberly Marquez finished 15th in the 100 hurdles (18.89) while sophomore Alexandria Balme took 15th in the 300 hurdles (53.54) and 20th in the 400 (66.59).

In the 4×100 relay, South Tahoe's girls team finished 15th. The quartet of Balme, junior Kerry Norton, junior Korinne Bricker and Marquez ran a 58.07 in the event.

On the boys side, junior Quinn Ritter and senior Corey McCarthy led the way with solid performances in multiple events. Ritter took fifth in the triple jump (41-10), eighth in the long jump (19-9 1/2) and 14th in the 200 (24.05); McCarthy finished sixth in the 300 hurdles (42.87) and 11th in the 400 (53.33).

A pair of juniors also delivered top-15 finishes for the Vikings' boys in the 300 hurdles. Carson Alexander took 13th (45.70) and Chase Stalter placed 15th (47.40).

Junior Dillon Lemons produced the best finish for South Tahoe in the distance events, placing 12th in the 1,600 with a time of 4:59.55. Junior Orion Maxwell was the Vikings' top finisher in the 3,200, taking 13th by running a 10:53.04 — junior Daniel Sandborn finished 17th (11:05.18) and junior Mario Mangriaracina placed 18th (11:06.75).

South Tahoe's team of Lemons, Mangiaracina, Maxwell and senior Eric Dunn took eighth in the 4×800 relay with a time of 9:06.49. That quartet also raced in the 1,200-400-800-1,600 distance medley relay and finished 13th with a time of 12:21.07.

Stalter and junior Blair Binns competed in both field events for the Vikings at the Rotary Invite. In the discus, Binns finished 13th with a throw of 117-10.

South Tahoe returns to action Saturday, April 18 in the Carson Invitational at Carson High (Carson City, Nev.). The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
