Sports memorabilia to be auctioned for Sierra House School

What do a school budget crunch and a defunct sports bar have in common?

Sierra House School is teaming up with Eric and Sher Eymann, former owners of a sports bar, to auction off a host of valuable sports memorabilia for charity, including signed baseball cards, hats, helmets and bats, as well as basketball figures and autographed football photos.

The “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” charity auction will be held Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the school, located on the corner of Pioneer Trail and High Meadows.

All proceeds from the evening will be donated to the school to cover PTA-related programs.

The events include a dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a fourth- and fifth-grade talent show at 6:30 p.m. Cost for those is $5. The actual auction, run by a professional auctioneer, will begin at 7:30 p.m. but a silent auction will be continuous throughout the evening. Admission to the auction itself is free.

“Since all the schools are having their budgets cut, we are raising money,” explained Sher Eymann, who has a child in kindergarten at Sierra House. “This money will go to teacher supplies, assemblies, reading programs…just to help out so we won’t get these programs cut, because they are very important.

“We all feel the crunch when the budget is cut,” she added. “Our PTA is really active and we are just trying to keep things going as normally as possible next year.”

Eymann said that she and her husband are being reimbursed at cost for the 99-105 items by Sierra House, which will control the auction and keep any profits from it.

Items for auction include signed baseball photos of such famous players as Tom Seaver, Carlton Fisk and Bo Jackson; signed baseball cards including Gaylord Perry and Phil Niekro’s 300th victory card; signed baseballs; signed baseball hats and helmets; signed baseball bats; signed football helmets including a Tim Brown mini-Heisman Trophy; signed football photos of such greats as Marcus Allen and Joe Montana; and basketball figurines of Kings stars Doug Christie, Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovic.

A raffle will also be held. A $1 ticket gives participants a shot at one of 14 prizes including free hotels, restaurants and casinos.
