SOUTH TAHOE POP WARNER JV ADVANCES TO SAGEBRUSH EMPIRE SNOW BOWL

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The South Tahoe Pop Warner junior varsity football team is on its way to the Snow Bowl after delivering a playoff victory Saturday, Oct. 29. The Vikings beat the Fernley Vaqueros 33-0 at Viking Stadium in the semifinals, remaining undefeated on the season.

South Tahoe (7-0) got on the board with a touchdown pass from Kai Collin to Justin Vinson. The Vikings got strong rushing performances Saturday from Jeremy Smiley, Derek Robbins, Kyle Clark and Mikey Roland Jr.

The Vikings’ offensive line of Hayden Waters, Brandon Ruiz, Gavyn Montell, Jake Whisnant, Dante Velasco, Ryan Aguila and Landyn Lane cleared the way for backs Leif Ferrier and Kaden Leake to combine for four touchdowns in the win. Ruiz kicked a field goal and ran in an extra point, and South Tahoe pitched its third shutout of the season.

South Tahoe will face the Sparks Ducks in the Snow Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 5.

LAKE TAHOE CC SOCCER SWEPT AT LASSEN IN DOUBLEHEADER

SUSANVILLE, Calif. — The Lake Tahoe Community College soccer teams suffered a pair of one-goal defeats in a road doubleheader Tuesday, Nov. 1. Both Coyotes teams fell to Lassen College in the Golden Valley Conference twinbill.

In the opener, the Lake Tahoe men’s team (9-4-6, 5-1-3 GVC) fell by a 2-1 margin. The loss was the Coyotes’ first in conference play, and kept them in second in the conference standings.

The Coyotes women’s team (8-5-4, 5-2-2) lost 1-0 to the Cougars to cap the doubleheader, matching the result from the first round of conference play. The defeat dropped LTCC to third in conference, two points behind Butte College with one less match played.

Both teams return to action with a home doubleheader Friday, Nov. 4, against College of the Siskiyous. The women’s match is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the men’s match afterward.

SOUTH TAHOE VOLLEYBALL SWEPT AT YERINGTON IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

YERINGTON, Nev. — The South Tahoe volleyball team closed out its regular season with a three-set defeat against quality opposition Tuesday, Nov. 1. The Vikings lost to 2A Northern League champion Yerington 14-25, 19-25, 20-25 in a non-league match.

Fourth-seeded South Tahoe (17-9) opens the postseason against fifth-seeded Lowry (11-16) in the 3A Northern League quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 4, at Churchill County High in Fallon. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.

TAHOE ICEMEN LOSE CLOSE GAMES IN SWEEP AT BELLINGHAM

 BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Only six goals separated the Tahoe Icemen and Bellingham Blazers in the teams’ three-game WSHL Northwest Division Series at Bellingham Sportsplex last weekend, Oct. 28-30. Unfortunately for the Icemen, none of the contests went their way.

Tahoe fell 4-2 in the series opener Friday, Oct. 28, in a game that featured 27 combined penalties — forwards Phil Heisse and Colton Langowski scored in the loss. The Icemen followed that up with a 4-1 loss in the second game of the series Saturday, Oct. 29.

In the series finale Sunday, Oct. 30, the Icemen lost 4-3 despite a hat trick from forward Ivan Radetskyi. Heisse and Langowski had two assists apiece in the one-goal defeat.

Tahoe (3-9) returns to action Friday, Nov. 4, with a three-game series at Seattle. Friday and Saturday’s games start at 7:05 p.m. with Sunday’s series finale scheduled for 2 p.m.
