STMS sweeps six divisions in first meet

South Tahoe Middle School swept all six team titles at the season-opening Jim Frank Cross Country Classic last Friday in Incline Village.

The Timberwolves also produced three of the six individual winners in the seventh annual classic that normally takes place at Spooner Lake. Shelby McIntyre won the sixth-grade girls’ 1.5-mile race in 11 minutes, 52 seconds; Justin Dalton captured the seventh-grade boys’ race in 11:22; and T.J. Zaccor claimed first in the seventh-grade girls’ race in 11:35.

The Tah-Neva League meet attracted teams from the Carson Valley, Carson City, Dayton, North Tahoe, Reno and South Lake Tahoe.

The Timberwolves finished 1-3-4 in the sixth-grade girls’ race. Behind McIntyre were Cassidy Cichowicz (12:39) and Shannon Colleton.

In the sixth-grade boys’ race, Scott Spicer (12:01) came in third, Garrett Singer in fourth and Ryan Caron in sixth.

STMS’s seventh-grade girls overpowered the competition with 10 participants finishing among the top 18 in a 30-runner field. After Zaccor were Whitney Elder in fifth (12:27), Ariana Truszewski in ninth and Amanda Southard in 10th.

The top three seventh-grade boys were from STMS. After Dalton were Connor Yingling (11:28) and Brady Hiob. The Timberwolves placed eight in the top 15 in the 50-runner field.

STMS’s Lindsey McCall (14:24) , Cassandra Diaz and Shelbi Spicer finished second, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the eighth-grade girls’ 2-mile event.

Jordan Yingling (13:26) and Ben Sullivan led the STMS eighth-grade boys, placing fifth and sixth.
