Tigers sweep South Tahoe softball

Kellei Kizer pitched a one-hit shutout to key a doubleheader sweep for the Douglas softball team against South Tahoe on Saturday at Lady Tiger Field in Minden.
Kizer (6-1) struck out 10 and walked none in game two as the Tigers picked up a 10-0 win. Val Smith went 5 for 5 on the day with three doubles to lead the Tigers at the plate. She also led the team with four RBIs in a 19-2 game one win in which Douglas drew 18 walks.
Lauren Hoppe had a double, four runs scored and an RBI in game one and Felicia Imelli drove in two runs. Nicole LaPorte went 2 for 2 with an RBI. Mitzi Olsen (4-1) picked up the win, striking out three and walking one.
In the first game, the Vikings scored their only runs in the top of the third, when Bernie Schneeberg singled to center and Charlotte Lee followed with a triple. Danielle Lowe then hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Lee.
South Tahoe plays at North Valleys on Tuesday.
Whittell softball, baseball can’t play games

Whittell’s Northern 2A doubleheader against White Pine was postponed after a snowstorm wiped out the games on Saturday in Ely.
The Warriors’ baseball travels to play Virginia City today at 3:30 p.m., while the softball team travels to play North Tahoe today at a site to be determined. Whittell should find out today when the games against White Pine will be made up.
