June 21, 2007
Krissy Guarino pitched a championship gem, striking out 13 Orange Crush batters as the Pink Ladies held off a late rally to win the High Sierra ASA majors championship 9-6 Thursday at South Tahoe High’s Field of Dreams.
Catcher Kim Smith singled four times, stole three bases and crossed the plate four times in the victory. Teammate Ashley Killeen singled, doubled and tripled, scoring three times for the winners.
This was the third straight championship for this team, coached in tandem by Mike Guarino and Vince Smith.
“This was the most challenging year,” Krissy Guarino said. “The ASA is really stepping up.”
The scoring for the champions began early, with Jenny Williamson and Guarino each driving in a run in the first inning.
The Crush answered in their half of the first on a triple by Shayna Butler, who was driven home on a double by Cindy Lucero.
