Vote for Tahoe Tribune Student Athletes of the Month

Bill Rozak | brozak@tahoedailytribune.com

The Tahoe Daily Tribune is showcasing two high school student athletes, one male and one female, each month of the academic year, and you decide which athletes we feature. Head to http://www.tahoedailytribune.com starting Feb. 1 and select your choice for the student athletes of the month. Voting will run for one week. The winners will be featured in the Tribune later this month.

Female

Brianna Johns, junior

Whittell junior Brianna Johns is a two-year starter on the Warriors varsity basketball team. She is the teams point guard and handles the ball on every possession. She is Whittell's best perimeter shooter. Johns also handles herself in the classroom with a 3.65 grade point average and a rolling cumulative GPA with AP bonus of 4.1.

Jessie Brown, senior

South Tahoe's Jessie Brown has been making tracks faster than any other Vikings Nordic skier this season. She consistently has been the Vikings leader in results and has never participated in a home meet as they have been canceled, or rescheduled, due to lack of snow, even last year with the epic snow season. Brown excels academically and is especially strong in the areas of math and science. She is also musically talented and plays the harp.

Leon has amassed a 39-9 overall record this season and has medaled in every tournament in which he has participated. Some highlights include a gold medal at the Savedra Classic in Sacramento and a fifth-place finish out of 84 wrestlers at the Coast Classic in Santa Cruz. Senior Payton Norton is the fastest alpine skier at George Whittell High School. He consistently finishes near the top and won the last Tahoe Basin Ski League race Jan. 25, at Heavenly Mountain Resort. A couple of weeks earlier, Norton finished second in a rainy race at Alpine Meadows. Norton hopes to continue skiing at college, but the A-student also hopes his university of choice will have an aviation program where he can advance his knowledge of flying and become an airline pilot.
