George Whittell High School senior Dismas Womack was recently awarded an athletic and academic scholarship to play football at the University of Jamestown in North Dakota. He will attend in the fall of this year.

“It’s pretty unbelievable,“ said Womack. “I never thought it was a possibility coming from a small school and going one in eight my freshman year. Now that it’s a reality I’m excited and ready to get started, and a lot of credit goes out to my coaches and teammates. Without them this wouldn’t be possible “

Womack, an offensive most-valuable-player, played a crucial role for the Whittell Warriors on both sides of the ball. In addition to being two-way starter for three of his four years as a Warrior, Womack led the league his sophomore year with 37 catches for 651 yards and nine touchdowns at wide receiver.

During his junior year, Womack switched from wide receiver to running back, creating a league-leading tandem with teammate Corey Huber. Womack helped lead the Warriors to their first state championship game in over 30 years that season. Although unable to take the championship back to Whittell, Womack’s efforts totaled 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

For his senior year, Womack further displayed his versatility by taking on the role of quarterback, replacing recently graduated all-state player Colin Buchholz. Once again Womack rose to the occasion, helping lead the Warriors to the state semifinals. Womack completed the season by passing for 1,095 yards, with 13 touchdowns.

Additionally on offense, he had 1,322 rushing yards, with 26 rushing touchdowns.

“Dismas has a great opportunity in front of him,” said head coach Phil Bryant. “He had a great football year for us and can use his natural athletic ability to continue his education while competing at the collegiate level. All of us at Whittell wish him the very best.”

All in all, Womack leaves Whittell with a stellar offensive and defensive record having achieved: 1,095 yards passing, 13 touchdown passes, 2,084 rushing yards, 45 rushing touchdowns, 946 yards receiving, 11 receiving touchdowns, 19 two-point conversions, 134 tackles, five interceptions and three recovered fumbles.

Womack also was all-league offense from 2014-16 and all-league defense from 2014-16, while maintaining a 3.6 grade point average. He plans to major in biology while attending college.

“I’m going to use football as a gateway to continue my education and eventually become a doctor,” Womack said.
