St. Patty’s day wine tasting held
Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club will host its St. Patrick’s Day Wine Tasting and Corned Beef Feed from 6 to 11 p.m. on March 16. It’s the best Irish party of the year and a true Lake Tahoe tradition. The 34th annual event will take place at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Special Events Center so the festive crowd can be better accommodated.
The fund-raiser will include a complete Irish buffet dinner featuring corned sirloin of beef and cabbage with all the trimmings. Participants will have an opportunity to sample generous pours of premium California wines from 12 different wineries and dance to live music from one of Tahoe’s favorite party bands — Al Moss and the Riptides. It’s a full evening of St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
The event features an incredible silent auction with more than 100 accommodation packages to cities across the United States and Puerto Rico. Some of the fabulous destinations featured are Hawaii, San Francisco, Napa Valley, San Diego, La Jolla, Santa Monica, Scottsdale, Denver and Orlando. Other great prizes include skis, snowboards, full-season ski passes for local ski resorts including Heavenly, jet ski rentals, parasail and hot air balloon rides, artwork, 50 local dining certificates and golf packages at Edgewood Tahoe, Genoa Lakes and Sierra Nevada. There also will be raffle prizes featuring local restaurants and retailers.
The St. Patrick’s Day Wine Tasting is the club’s major fund-raiser to provide for college scholarships and donations to local nonprofit organizations. Last year proceeds from the wine tasting allowed the club to donate $10,000 in academic scholarships to 13 local high school seniors and another $25,000 to local community programs that benefit everyone at Lake Tahoe.
The ticket donation is $40 each and reserved tables of 10 are available for $400. Seating is guaranteed but people need to get tickets early since this great party is always a sell-out. Tickets may be purchased from any club member or at the Lakeside Inn & Casino cashier cage, Paradise Timeshare on U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe, Colonial Bank on Kingsbury Grade, Wells Fargo Bank on U.S. Highway in Stateline Selective Accommodations and Hot Springs Spas in Round Hill or by calling Chris Probert, ticket chairman, at (775) 588-2018.
