Stewardship group offers walking tour of Upper Truckee and marsh on Wednesday
August 7, 2008
The Upper Truckee River Watershed Stewardship Group will join the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) on a public walking tour of the Upper Truckee River and marsh on Wednesday.
The purpose of the tour is to educate the public about the Upper Truckee River and how it relates to the ecological function of Lake Tahoe, historical events that have resulted in degradation, and details on alternatives for the proposed restoration, according to a news statement.
The tour is designed as an informational session only and is not a public hearing. The tour will be guided by a representative of the CTC, which, along with the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is pursuing restoration efforts in the area.
Participants will meet at 5 p.m. at the League to Save Lake Tahoe at 955 Emerald Bay Road. Carpooling from the League to the tour location is encouraged.
