STHS frosh team finishes with 15-9 record

Mission accomplished.

The South Tahoe High boys’ freshman basketball team met its preseason goal of winning 15 games by rallying to beat Damonte Ranch 58-43 in a season finale on Feb. 12 in Reno.

South Tahoe trailed 23-22 at halftime but pulled away in the second half behind the play of its defense.

“Our press ate them up in that quarter; many turnovers that led to lots of easy baskets,” said STHS assistant coach Roger Cramer.

Cramer was also pleased with the Vikings’ execution of their 2-3 zone offense.

“I’m really proud of the boys and their unselfish ball movement, leading to easy interior baskets,” Cramer said.

A balanced Vikings’ scoring attack was led by Bobby Perez with 12 points. Brandon Cramer knocked down 11 points and Cory Plummer scored nine. Kyante Wilson scored nine points, but it was his play on the boards that was huge for the Vikings. He grabbed 15 rebounds after pulling down 17 against Douglas in the previous game.

South Tahoe finished with a 15-9 overall record, including a 9-5 mark against Sierra Division teams.
