STHS golf fifth at Lowry

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The South Tahoe golf team saw improvements at Lowry High School this past Friday, but the Vikings finished a spot lower than their previous tourney in Fallon, taking fifth.

“We were 14 higher than last time,” said coach Greg Kuntz. “Katie sears improved by two shots, that was our biggest improvement.”

The Vikings finished with a total score of 476. Morgan Murphy shot and 87 on the day to lead South Tahoe. Lowry won the tourney with a 362, followed by Elko at 379, then Spring Creek at 444, and Fernley at 474.

Kuntz was happy with his girls performances on Friday, after starting out a little rough.

“There were a bunch of grumpy faces mid-round and everyone turned it around on the back nine,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll carry the strong back nine into the tournament on Thursday.”

The Vikings will be host to this weeks tournament on Thursday, though it won’t be much of a home meet for South Tahoe, as they travel to Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City.
