FALLON, Nev. – The young South Tahoe golf team shot a 490 at Fallon on Tuesday, finishing seventh behind Fernley, which shot a 461, and a fifth-place Fallon, which shot a 461. The Vikings were able to finish much better than the 526 they shot at Dayton on March 29, but finished behind the Vaqueros this time after nudging them in Dayton.

“It’s going to be a little battle, but not that big of a deal,” head coach J. Brazil said of moving up in the standings. “We’re pretty young, but that’s OK.”

Kolton Van Pelt led South Tahoe with a 90, four strokes better than his previous outing. “He’s our team captain, he’s a good one,” Brazil said.

Van Pelt was followed by freshman Morgan Petragallo, who recorded a 93. Tre Charrette, a sophomore, finished with a 98 – a tremendous jump from his previous outing.

“This is his second match and he improved by 15 strokes in this match. He is coming along,” Brazil said. “That’s quite an improvement over one week.”

In his first match of the season, Austin Brooks finished with a 101. Brazil applauded his drive on the fifth hole with a lot of “commotion” going on around him.

“That was our shot of the day,” he said. “You had to be there to appreciate the situation.”

Conor Shaw shot a 108, and Sam Burba shot a 114.

“Down the road we’ll be pretty tough,” Brazil said. “I think we can get it up into the fifth or fourth (finish) by the end of the year.”
