STHS Nordic skiers ‘Gorge’ themselves with top-20 results
South Tahoe High’s Tyler Myers and Erik Cramer finished 12th and 14th, respectively, in the Royal Gorge CNISSF Freestyle meet on Friday.
Myers was timed in 16:49.93 for the 5K race, while Cramer crossed the finish line at 17:32.49.
Former South Tahoe High student Cassidy Cichowicz was third in the girls’ varsity race with her time of 15 minutes, 52.68 seconds.
The Vikings’ Lisa Johnston placed third in the open girls’ division, finishing behind two Sugar Bowl competitors with her time of 19:07.96.
Three additional teammates cracked the top 10 as Tiffany Racz came in sixth at 20:10.19, Christy Walowit was seventh at 20:18.06 and Janelle Spandau placed 10th at 21:46.49.
South Tahoe also produced the 11th through 14th-place finishers as Kate Carlson took 11th in 21:52.03 and was followed by Molly Dant, Madeline Dant and Liana Novak. Also for STHS, Kate Albrecht placed 18th, Emily Barnett 21st and Karin Vacakis 24th.
In the boys’ open division, Kyle Swain and Harley Norton finished fourth and fifth, while Chas Carlson was ninth, Gavin Garcia 10th and Leighton Cook 12th.
The South Tahoe Middle School girls were led by Ally Swain in 16th place and Tatum Whatford in 21st. For the boys, the T-Wolves were topped by Nick Cefalu’s 25th-place effort.

The high school and middle school racers will compete Friday at the Truckee Sprints.
