Storms and wind to pack punch at Lake Tahoe, Sierra

LAKE TAHOE ” A series of storms lining up in the Pacific will bring heavy winds and snow to the Lake Tahoe Basin through at least Wednesday.

Both wind and winter storm advisories have been posted for Monday into Tuesday with a winter storm watch now set for Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Sunday night: Windy with rain and snow. snow level rising to 7,500 to 8,000 feet. Snow accumulation 6 to 12 inches above 8,000 feet. Lows 22 to 32. South winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. ridge gusts up to 120 mph.

Monday: Windy with rain and snow. Snow level 7,500 feet lowering to 6,500 feet. Snow accumulation 3 to 5 inches with 6 to 10 inches above 7,000 feet. Highs 40 to 50. South winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph decreasing to 40 mph in the afternoon. Ridge gusts up to 135 mph decreasing to 80 mph in the afternoon.

Monday night: Windy with snow. Snow accumulation 3 to 5 inches with 5 to 10 inches above 7,000 feet. Lows 15 to 25. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Ridge gusts up to 100 mph.

Tuesday windy with snow. Highs 29 to 39. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Ridge gusts up to 85 mph.
