String Cheese mandolin player brings new band to North Shore

Lake Tahoe Action

Just when you think that you’ve seen and heard it all, people like Chris Berry and Michael Kang come along.

Jinji, a three-piece African drum ensemble featuring electrified African mbira and Kang’s mandolin, is nothing like you’ve experienced before.

Jinji features the latest material Kang and Berry co-wrote on their epic musical “Journey to Mozambique and Uganda” in 2007. Carefully crafted lyrics and tight harmonies soar over the top of the driving African rhythms.

“Jinji is an intense energetic field created by intertwining rhythms that elevates dance and emotional states,” Berry said.

Kang and Berry play Friday, March 14, at the Tahoe Biltmore.
