Student arrested in alleged attack on STHS teacher
October 20, 2008
A teacher allegedly was attacked by a student Friday at South Tahoe High School.
South Lake Tahoe police received a call from the high school at 1:27 p.m. reporting the fight, Sgt. Cameron Carmichael said.
According to the report, the teacher approached a large group of students in a hallway. The teacher squirted water from a water bottle on the group to break up the gathering, when a male student allegedly kicked her feet out from under her and pushed her backward, Carmichael said.
The teacher fell to the ground, and shortly after, another student intervened to pull the assailant off the teacher, Carmichael said.
The student was taken to the Juvenile Treatment Center that day. He is charged with assaulting a school employee and battery on school grounds.
The school resource officer, Scott Willson, was not at the high school when the assault occurred, Carmichael said. Willson works 10 1/2-hour days four days a week. He usually is there Monday through Thursday but sometimes switches to Tuesday through Friday.
