Student art exhibit about to begin

Lake Tahoe Community College art department will sponsor its annual juried student exhibition May 22 through June 19 in the main campus commons gallery area and adjoining hallways. An opening ceremony is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. May 22 with the award ceremony at 3:30 p.m. The exhibit is open to the public.
A class in exhibition production and gallery management is offered during the spring quarter to give students first-hand experience in the business aspects of presenting an art exhibition such as public relations, reception planning and coordinating an exhibit. The juror is a person not affiliated with LTCC contracted to judge student work not only on it technical quality, but its creative originality as well.
This year there will be 17 categories within the exhibit: painting, drawing, watercolor/water media, two-dimensional figure (no subject,) printmaking, B/W and color photography, digital art, mixed media, sculpture, figure sculpture, ceramics, raku, bronze, color & design and portraiture. The juror will choose first, second and third and honorable mention in each category. A ribbon for Best of Show will also be awarded.
A separate team of jurors will select artworks to be awarded the cash prize of the Patricia Amundson Purchase Award. These works are placed into the college permanent art collection.
A special award is the People’s Choice Award in which viewers choose their favorite artist and/or art pieces.
