Student readers get recognition

Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra began its eighth season of honoring students for becoming good readers Nov. 15.

The organization presented three students from Tahoe Montessori School with On Your Way awards.

Each of the students received a gift certificate to Neighbors Bookstore and a certificate of award. In addition, their school received books for the library in their names.

The three recipients each have different literary interests: Madilynn Chavarria enjoys all kinds of animal books. Melinda Spano’s favorite book is “Jennie B. Jones.” Ty’Rese Thompson likes to read because he learns about history and quite naturally chose his favorite book, “Abraham Lincoln.” Congratulations to each one of them.

Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra celebrates children who are improving their literacy throughout the school year. Three children are chosen by their teachers; typically a third-, fourth- and fifth-grade student.
