Suicide reported at South Lake jail

Tribune staff report

An inmate at the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe hanged himself Sunday afternoon, three days after he had been arrested on domestic violence charges, the sheriff’s office says.

Jail officers found the 47-year-old South Lake Tahoe man unconscious and not breathing in his cell at about 2:26 p.m., according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers started CPR and continued it until medics arrived and transported the inmate to Barton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

While the preliminary cause of death is suicide by hanging, the case remains under investigation by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the district attorney’s office and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
