Supervisors to review STAR, Gondola Project

El Dorado County Supervisor Dave Solaro today will submit the proposal from South Tahoe Alliance for Recreation to the board, relating to the formation of the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Facilities Joint Powers Authority.

The JPA formation is necessary for money to be appropriated to enhance South Shore parks and fields.

Also concerning South Shore, a hearing to consider a Resolution of Necessity for condemnation of property for South Shore’s Redevelopment Agency Park Avenue Gondola Project Gondola Construction and Operation.



In 1993, the county entered a JPA with the city of South Lake Tahoe so that the two public entities could jointly exercise the power to acquire property outside city limits that are needed to complete traffic improvements in the Tahoe Regional Transportation Plan and the Heavenly Valley Master Plan.

During the past 10 years, Heavenly Ski Resort and the South Tahoe Redevelopment Agency have worked on a plan to link the Stateline area to the ski resort through the construction of a gondola. The base of the gondola lies within the Park Avenue Redevelopment Project.



A critical component of Heavenly’s Master Plan, approved by the county board in 1996, the project is designed to alleviate congestion and increase air quality.
