Support services program expands

Submitted to the Tribune

Lilliput Children’s Services, a local leader in foster, adoption and kinship care throughout Northern California, has expand its El Dorado County “Kinship Support Services Program” to the South Lake Tahoe area.

Through KSSP, Lilliput offers kinship families a variety of supportive services including support groups, assistance in applying for guardianship or MediCal, information about and referrals to critical mental health, medical, dental and financial assistance, family activities and more. All South Lake Tahoe kinship families qualify for these free services.

Kinship families are formed when kin — grandparents, other extended family members or someone else known — bring into their home abused, neglected and at-risk relative children who can no longer be safely or effectively raised by their birth parents. It is a decision that is made suddenly and out of crisis, usually due to birth parent drug addiction, incarceration or mental health issues.
