Swimmers receive scholarships

South Tahoe High School senior Luis Gomez and junior Corissa Heath were each awarded a $500 scholarship for their achievement and excellence while participating on the STHS varsity swim team.

The two were given scholarships in honor of the team’s head coach, Sara Urch’s late sister Samantha Urch, who was a member of the varsity swim team from 1999 to 2003.

The award was titled “Student Athlete Who Went The Extra Mile With Integrity” – the “Sami Award.” Funds for the award were raised by the generous donations given to the Samantha Urch Memorial Fund after her passing in August 2005.

The funds are to help these hard-working students meet the financial demands of reaching their goals, both scholastically and athletically.
