Swimsuit-clad women rescued from wilderness

Two Danville, Calif. women spent a cold night in the forest Sunday after becoming disoriented on a day hike west of Dardanells Lake.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies said Jeanette M. Fitch, 54, and Bobbie Verges, 56, were camping at the lake and were dressed in only swimming suits when they started out on their hike. After getting lost, Fitch contacted her husband by cellular phone, who then called the Sheriff’s Department.

Fitch’s husband told deputies that the two women had found a rock overhang and were fine for the evening.

Search and rescue began a search for the women at first light Monday morning. A California Highway Patrol helicopter also assisted in the search.

The women were found by the helicopter around 7:45 a.m., a mile west of the lake and off the trail. The women were flown out to the trailhead. Neither woman was seriously injured, deputies said.
