Tahoe Air group meeting in basin

by Michael Schneider

Six members of the Tahoe Air Management team will be in the Tahoe area over the next couple days for meeting with businesses which could potentially help market the new airline.

Mark Sando, the group’s local contact, said six members of airline management and two members of the bank which has committed to raise about $7 million for the airline are in Tahoe working on the Tahoe Air Marketing Alliance.

Tahoe Air, independent the firm hired by the city to bring commercial air service to the Lake Tahoe Airport, has been working toward establishing its airline at the airport since it incorporated in September 1996.

After making its efforts public last summer, the start-up airline has secured funding from Ally Capital Corporation based in Marin, Calif.

Although he did not yet want to discuss with which businesses the group would be meeting on this trip, Sando said while most meetings had been only to establish relationships over the past years, that was now changing.

“Now we’re getting down to brass tacks,” Sando said. “This is really one of the first times we’re going in and saying what we need and asking what they can provide.”

Tahoe Air officials hope to provide commercial service to San Francisco and Los Angeles by the summer.
