The Tahoe Art league is pleased to feature Dave Russo for its April 14 meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3060 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The public is welcome.

Russo will present a photo journey through the seasons to painting locations that he visits, plus a discussion about the fun and foibles of painting in the outdoors. Russo and participating TAL artists will display a collection of their artwork from past outings.

This presentation is scheduled as a “kick-off” for the very successful Plein Air outdoor painting program that Russo has hosted for seven years. Starting in May and progressing through the summer, TAL members and interested artists are invited to join Russo for outdoor painting on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. The group may work in a variety of mediums joining together for inspiration and camaraderie. They will visit scenic locations such as Sand Harbor, Glen Alpine Falls, Hope Valley, Wood’s Lake, Carson Pass and others.

Many know Russo as an internationally recognized “Realistic Expressionist” who studied with Picasso in the 1940s. He is accomplished in several media and his works have been displayed worldwide in location including London, Paris and Geneva. He received a master’s degree in art from California State University, San Francisco, a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Southern California, and a doctorate degree in art from Stanford University.

Although he retired from his work in the California school system as an art instructor and coach in 1985, he has continued a very active lifestyle. Presently he is a popular instructors at Lake Tahoe Community College, teaching watercolors, drawing, and design classes.

In addition he has given many hours of volunteer work to our community and generously donated his art to benefit the LTCC Foundation, the Tahoe Art League, the Soroptomists, the Women’s Center, and many other service organizations.

If you are interested in learning more about Russo’s art or requesting his catalogue of paintings, you can contact him at: bigDARussso@aol.com, or at (530) 542-2668.

The first Plein Air adventure of the season will be a full day trip on May 11t to the High Sierra Iris and Wedding Gardens on Hassler Road in Camino. Meet at 8:15 a.m. at Meeks Lumber in Meyers for carpooling. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at noon by the pond. The Sunday morning sessions will initiate on May 16 at Glen Alpine Falls/Lily Lake, at the south end of Fallen Leaf Lake. Meet at the “Y” for carpooling.
