Tahoe Arts Project begins another season

Staff reports

Tahoe Arts Project is beginning its 15th year of bringing professional performing artists into local schools and the community.

“We have another spectacular line up scheduled for our 2001-2002 season,” said Peggy Aguilar, executive director of Tahoe Arts Project.

The season will begin in October with the Japanese musical trio, Essence. This group will perform traditional music of Japan. School programs will take place Oct. 8 through 12 and a public performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Lake Tahoe Community College Theater.

The Missoula Children’s Theater will be back in town on Nov. 13 conducting auditions for “Alice in Wonderland.” Approximately 60 local students will be cast to perform in two public performances on Nov. 17.

“This will be our 11th residency with the Missoula Children’s Theater,” Aguilar said. “It’s a perfect opportunity for children with no acting experience to participate in a play.”

“Word for Word” will be in the schools March 4 through 8 with a public performance on March 9.

“Word for Word” is a theatrical group that will bring literature to life by performing short works of fiction in their entirety. To finish the season, The Juan Sanchez Ensemble will bring the sounds of Spain in to the schools April 22 through 26 and for the community on April 27.

“Our public performances are a wonderful opportunity for families to attend quality performing arts programs. I hope to see you there,” Aguilar said.

Tahoe Arts Project is a nonprofit organization that brings professional performing arts into 12 local schools serving more than 8,000 kindergarten thorough 12th-grade students

“We receive a tremendous amount of support from our community and schools. Thank you for helping us enrich our children,” Aguilar said.
