A man accused of robbing three South Shore banks might also be responsible for similar crimes in Sacramento, Reno and Oregon, investigators said.

Meredith Howard Polzel, 52, was arrested Aug. 25 in a downtown Truckee Motel, after South Lake Tahoe Police tracked him from a false name registration at a South Shore motel. Investigators said Polzel contracted a private hauling company, paid them $200 to pick him up minutes after the last robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank in the Crescent V Raley’s, and drive him to Truckee.

The day before the Wells Fargo robbery, US Bank was hit, and four days before that the El Dorado Savings Bank.

Investigators said a bus ticket, and receipts found during Polzel’s arrest placed him in Sacramento, and at a hotel room in Reno during times robberies were committed in those two cities. Polzel is reportedly originally from Salem, Ore.

Investigators said Polzel’s prior criminal history in Oregon is made up of mostly minor offenses. Polzel is charged with three counts of robbery. A preliminary hearing on the case is set for Sept. 9 in El Dorado County Superior Court. If convicted on all three counts Polzel faces a maximum sentence of 24 years in prison.
