Tahoe Choir to perform holiday concerts

Submitted to the Tribune

Tahoe Choir and the Lake Tahoe Community College Chorus will perform two holiday concerts this weekend in South Lake Tahoe.

The concerts are titled “For the Love of Music.” Choir Director Linda Mitchell has selected a range of music, including favorite classical and popular songs with traditional holiday music thrown in. Accompanied by pianist Salli Parker, Mitchell will lead the choir in singing “Wedding Cantata” by Daniel Pinkham, Felix Mendelssohn’s “He, Watching Over Israel,” the chorus from the one act opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” by Gian-Carlo Menotti, along with a few other classical selections for the season. The choir will also perform “The Twelve Days After Christmas” and a few movements from P.D.Q. Bach’s “The Seasonings.” A select ensemble will perform traditional madrigal songs from the Renaissance.

Performances will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at LTCC’s Duke Theater, 1 College Way, and Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students and can be purchased at the door or in advance from a choir member. Children 5 and younger will be admitted free of charge.
