Tahoe City investigators look into apparent murder-suicide

Sheriff’s investigators are looking into what they believe is a murder-suicide that occurred over the weekend in Tahoe City.

Placer County sheriff’s deputies responded with North Tahoe Fire Protection District to a vehicle fire on Bunker Drive near the Tahoe City Golf Course on Saturday at approximately 9 a.m. After firefighters extinguished the car fire, deputies found human remains in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

After interviewing witnesses, deputies drove to the home of the car’s registered owner, less than a mile from the vehicle fire, and found a dead woman in the house.

Though the investigation is ongoing and facts are continuing to unfold, investigators said they believe the woman was murdered by her boyfriend and then he committed suicide by using gasoline to set his vehicle on fire while sitting in the vehicle, according to Placer County Sheriff Edward Bonner.

Both autopsies are scheduled for this morning to establish cause of death and to identify the man and woman.
