Tahoe Daily Tribune wins nine CNPA awards

And the winner is … .

The Tahoe Daily Tribune was honored with nine California Newspaper Publishers Association awards at its annual convention Aug. 12 at the historic Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego.

“This is such an accomplishment for our community paper,” said Lisa Donahue, Tribune managing editor. “We compete against 17 other papers across the state that are equivalent to our circulation. There was some tough competition but we were able to walk away on top.

“The only other paper that won more awards than us was the Los Angeles Times with 13.”

CNPA received 3,300 entries with 138 newspapers winning one or more of the 408 total first- and second-place plaques awarded. The winners’ entries were published during the 1999 calendar year.

The Tribune received General Excellence; Illustration or Information Graphic first and second place for “Around the World” and Best of Tahoe cover; Display Advertising, first place; Spot News Photo, first place “Overturned tanker on Spooner Summit”; Sports Coverage, first place; Arts and Entertainment, first place; and Environment/Ag Resource Reporting, first place.

“The awards would not be possible without the talented editorial staff. Our reporters and editors are dedicated and take a lot of pride in their work,” Donahue said. “The community is also responsible for us achieving this honor. South Shore is full of interesting characters and hard-hitting community issues.”
