Like the people who inhabit Tahoe, there’s never a dull moment installing the Tahoe Douglas Chamber of Commerce board.
The vibrant group put on its best duds last Thursday night at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe to bring in a new round of recruits from the business community for the coming year – including incoming President Andrew Strain.
In honor of the vice president of planning at Heavenly Mountain Resort, the chamber put on a skit called “Pennies from Heavenly,” an appropriate parody of the 1938 classic song.
This one had a Tahoe twist.

“Every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven. Don’t you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven. You’ll find your fortune falling all over town. Be sure that your umbrella is upside down,” the creative lyrics called out with a song-and-dance number from chamber ambassadors.
Other songs recognizing the Heavenly connection were “Stairway to Heavenly” and “The Five People You Meet at Heavenly.”
Strain has a long history in Tahoe. Before his stint at Heavenly where he’s responsible for overseeing improvements from the Vail Resorts property, he worked at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
He’ll serve on the 2005-06 board with Dave Berman of Stateline Office Supply; Bill Cottrill of Embassy Suites Resort; Fred Green of Wilderness Studio; Kathy Halbardier of Tahoe Ridge Vineyards & Winery; Diane Imbach of M&T Mortgage; Ken Jillson of Alling & Jillson, Ltd.; Steve Lowe of Harrah’s/Harveys casinos; Carol McClintock of the Horizon Casino Resort; Don Miner of Miner Chiropractic; Pat Ronan of Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge & Spa; Kathy Thorne of Caesars Tahoe; Pam Wheeler of Lakeside Inn & Casino.
Susan Lowe of Chase International is the president elect; Phil Weidinger of Weidinger Public Relations is vice president; Thomas McAleer of Aramark is the treasurer; and Dan Garrison of the Ridge Tahoe serves as past-president.
