Tahoe girl collecting funds for pandas

Marella Roberts
For the Tahoe Daily Tribune

This year I am turning 11 on April 8th and it will be on Easter. I have decided for my Birthday, that instead of a Birthday party and presents I want to collect money for the Pandas. I did this five years ago when I turned 6. The tribune did an article on me to help me raise more donations. That year I raised enough money to adopt a panda, Tao Tao, who I nicknamed Zhao He, “Shinning Peace”. My panda was even chosen to attend the Olympics in China in 2008. My second grade Flat Stanley even got to go by mail to see the Pandas in China!

Pandas are endangered, which means almost gone. Donations will help feed and care for the Pandas. I am collecting donations for Panda International, a non-profit organization that supports panda nature reserves in southern China’s Sichuan Province. There are 1,590 left in the world. I want to make a difference again. I will have a donation jar at my school, Sierra House Elementary for the month of March.

So far I have raised $1525. Please check out my fundraising page: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/4thePandas/mirellarobertsfundraisingpage

Please help.
