Tahoe mermaid appears in new notecard illustration

Provided to the Tribune
Provided to the Tribune "Lake Mermaid" is one of the images Kristen Schwartz uses to illustrate her notecards.

Kristen Schwartz, an illustrator and owner of Faery Medicine at South Lake Tahoe, has revealed her latest notecard illustration titled “Lake Mermaid,” an image of a trout-tailed mermaid who lives in Lake Tahoe.

In the image, the mermaid contemplates an eagle feather and her own possibility of taking flight.

Other Tahoe-inspired images in Schwartz’s repertoire include “Cave Rock Woman,” a homage to the sacred Washoe Indian site Cave Rock, and “Lake Mother Lake of the Sky,” dedicated to the community in the aftermath of the Angora fire.

The images are available as notecards with a short poem on the back of each card. They are available at Gaialicious, both Rainbow Bridge locations and online at Faery Medicine, http://www.FaeryMedicine.com.

Her work also is featured on the Tahoe Arts and Mountain Culture Web site, http://www.TahoeCulture.com; the LTVA homepage, http://www.bluelaketahoe.com; and the Northern California Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators, http://www.scbwinorthca.org.
