Tahoe Rim Trail events slated Jan. 7

What’s covered in snow and fun for the whole family? National Winter Trails Day, of course.

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association will partner with businesses and organizations to kick off the winter season with the family event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 7 on both sides of the lake

North Tahoe: National Winter Trails Day is all about introducing folks to the joys of winter trails and using them safely. In that spirit, we’ve planned a day of snowshoe hikes on themes ranging from winter animals to avalanche awareness, fun winter survival demonstrations and activities, a drawing for cool donated prizes and warm drinks and gourmet treats.

South Tahoe: Just like the North Lake event, we will be joining together in South Lake Tahoe to celebrate winter recreation and safety. We will lead snowshoe hikes through the newly opened Van Sickle State Park, have outdoor gear demonstrations and a Warming Party (with food donated by Stateline Brewery and Baja Fresh) at Explore Tahoe after the hikes. We will also hold a raffle for prizes donated by our awesome local sponsors.

Participants are encouraged to register in advance. Online registration can be completed on the TRTA website at www.

tahoerimtrail.org. For more information call 775-298-0012 or email Tom at programs@tahoe

This event is subject to cancellation due to winter weather.

The alternate Snow Date for this event is the following Saturday, Jan. 14. Registrants will be notified via e-mail of any changes to the date.
