The Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association high school and middle school honor band, honor choir and honor jazz band consist of some of the finest school musicians throughout Northern Nevada.

Musicians from approximately 10 high schools and 12 middle schools audition on a tape for an opportunity to make these elite groups. The audition music is selected in advance so everyone competes on the same songs, so the judges select students based on musical ability only. They do not know school or student identity on the tape. The students then practice for two days before putting on a public concert.

The honor choir students will rehearse Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 and 2 and will present a concert Feb. 2.

The honor bands will rehearse Feb. 21 and 22 and their concert will be Feb. 22. All rehearsals and performances will take place at Churchill County High School in Fallon.

These students also get a chance to compete for the Nevada All-State Band/Choir.
