Tahoe Toy Run approaching

The 11th annual Lake Tahoe Toy Run to benefit Christmas Cheer All Year will take place Oct. 6 at South Lake Tahoe. Participants will line up at the Horizon Casino Resort main entrance at 11 a.m. and depart at 1 p.m. for The Brother’s Place. The Toy Run committee will give away McDonald’s Happy Meals to the first 100 children who come to the Horizon. The band Cool Black Kettle will provide music starting at 1:30 p.m. at The Brother’s Place, 888 Emerald Bay Road. The event will include food, beverages and raffle prizes and is open to the public with no cover charge.

The purpose of Christmas Cheer is to help provide low income families at the South Shore of California and Nevada with food and toys. The nonprofit organization was started 21 years ago by Nat and Bonita Sinclair and has been helping individuals and families in need since that time. Mary Luckel, Toy Run coordinator, said that each year the support of local businesses and businesses from the surrounding areas make it possible to have such a wonderful turnout.

Donations to the Toy Run may be taken to a truck the committee will have at the Horizon beginning at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 6 or dropped off at The Brothers Place. Last year the Toy Run raised more than $5,000 and collected more than 500 toys for Christmas Cheer.
