Tahoe weather today and tonight: Wind, rain and snow
Lake Tahoe Marathon runners are in for a brisk day today as a fast-moving cold front pushes through the Tahoe basin with wind, rain and snow expected by tonight.
Gusty winds with rain turning to snow at lake level is expected for today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service. An area of low pressure off the West Coast is now swinging southeast across Northern California. As the system approaches, southwest to west winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph with 35 to 45 mph gusts. A lake wind advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. this evening.
Winds over the Serra crest will gust between 60 and 80 mph. blowing dust may reduce visibilities across portions of the basin and valleys. The brunt of the system should reach the Tahoe basin this evening, bringing with it ight to moderate precipitation with a significant drop in snow levels, according to the weather service.
Snow levels will start above 8000 feet ahead of the fron then drop to around 6000 feet behind the front. there is the potential for 3 to 5 inches of snow above 7000 feet with 1 to 3 inches between 6,000 feet to 7,000 feet.
If f you have travel plans on Highway 50, Highway 207, or Interstate 80 be prepared for winter driving conditions tonight and Saturday morning.
