Tahoe weather: Windy with increasing clouds today, much cooler Wednesday
A dramatic change in the weather is forecast as we transition from record high temperatures in the 80s this past weekend to daytime readings in the 50s by Wednesday.
An approaching cold front will bring increasing clouds and southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph by afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a lake wind advisory for Lake Tahoe from 11 AM until 11 PM today. Highs today are forecast to reach the lower to mid 70s around the lake around 10 degrees cooler than Mondays record highs.
Showers are forecast to develop this evening with the passage of the cold front which may also trigger a thunderstorm.
Precipitation amounts are expected to be around a tenth of an inch or less in most areas with the snow level near 8000 feet. Lows tonight are projected to drop into the mid 30s around the lake under partly cloudy skies and locally gusty north winds.
Much cooler air will push into the area on Wednesday in the wake of the cold front. Highs are forecast to reach the lower to mid 50s at lake level with brisk north winds 10 to 20 mph.
The summer weather was nice while it lasted but it was nearly 20 degrees above the seasonal normal for mid May. Welcome back to the more typical spring weather.
