Tahoe Youth & Family reaches out

Provided to the Tahoe Daily Tribune. The Tahoe Youth & Family Services Outreach Team, from left, Cindy Ramos, Kathy Martinez, Cheyanne Lane and Mac Cerceo, provide information to youth at Lake Tahoe.

The Outreach Team of Tahoe Youth & Family Services does an important job for the community of South Lake Tahoe. The team goes to where kids hang out such as the arcades in the casinos and the gondola and ice rink at the Marriott. There they give important information to the youth regarding services that are available to them in South Lake Tahoe. The team also goes to all community events such as Fire Fest, Safety Fair, Kahle Fitness Fair and the upcoming AIDS awareness for girls and women at Heavenly.

They provide information on Safe Place as well. The team also checks on and recruits businesses to be Safe Places. We presently have more than 50 Safe Places in South Lake Tahoe. We plan on having almost all businesses in Tahoe to become Safe Places, so we can let the youth of this community know that we care about them. Safe Place is a nationwide effort to help youth who are thinking of running away or feel threatened or afraid. They can go to any safe place in South Lake Tahoe and the staff of that business are trained to call Tahoe Youth & Family Services, who will send a counselor over immediately to help the youth. The team also goes to all schools to let the youth know about Safe Place. If you are a teen and would like to join the outreach team call (530) 541-2445, ext. 105.
