TAP sponsors Word for Word performances
Tahoe Arts Project, with support from Kerry and Wendy David, will sponsor a community presentation by Word for Word at 7 p.m. Friday at Lake Tahoe Community College’s Duke Theater.
Word for Word is a professional theater company that stages short stories, performing every word the author has written.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors, and they can be purchased in advance at the California or Nevada Visitors Center. Tickets also will be available at the door. A representative from Usborne Books will conduct a book fair, and attendees will have a chance to win a free book. For more information, call (530) 542-3632 or visit tahoeartsproject.org.
The show features the newly commissioned stories “When Tom Smith Caused the 1906 Earthquake” and “Ancestor” by celebrated author Greg Sarris. These two stories will be presented in local schools through Friday as part of Tahoe Arts Project’s in-school performing arts presentations.
“When Tom Smith Caused the 1906 Earthquake” is the retelling of a family folktale, staged for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
“Ancestor” is the story of 15-year-old R.D., whose world is torn apart when his grandmother dies. His mother can’t care for him, and he wonders where he will go. R.D. looks to the stories of his Native American ancestors and finds a key to his future.
