Teacher opening only for this year

Tahoe Daily Tribune Staff Reports

A classified ad in last week’s Tahoe Daily Tribune for an elementary teacher in Lake Tahoe Unified School District is for the remainder of this year – not next, said Beth Delacour, human resources director.

The district slashed dozens of teacher positions for next school year to remain fiscally solvent and eyebrows were raised regarding the ad. Delacour said a high school teacher resigned in March and the position was filled by an Al Tahoe Elementary teacher who requested a transfer.

“So between now and the end of the year we really have an open position,” Delacour said. “I don’t have a (substitute) coming back to it or somebody from leave coming back to it.”

‘Fog of War’ at LTCC Theater

“The Fog of War,” which won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film, will be shown at the Lake Tahoe Community College Theater on May 14 at 7:30 p.m. The film investigates the Vietnam War through the eyes of Robert McNamara, who was defense secretary during the war. The documentary was critically acclaimed by The New York Times, the Chicago Sun-Times and Time Magazine, among others.

Tickets are available at the Student Services office, which is to the right after entering the main building. General admission costs $5, seniors staff and children pay $4 and students with a LTCC student body card pay $3.
