Teachers to vote Thursday on contract

The South Tahoe Educators’ Association will vote Thursday on a contract offer from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

After two years of complicated salary negotiations, it appears an agreement will be finalized.

A tentative agreement was reached April 19, leaving only one contract section to refine.

Representatives from both sides met Monday to fine tune the language of the section in question.

According to Jim Watson, a member of the district’s negotiating team, the discrepancy was cleared up and the agreement is ready to be voted on by the teachers.

The association members will vote on the terms and implementations of the tentative agreement Thursday, according to Yvonne Larson, a member of the teachers’ negotiating team.

If the association ratifies the agreement, the school board will vote on it during its May 9 meeting, according to Interim Superintendent Barbara Davis.

Once the tentative agreement has been ratified by both the teachers and the board, its terms will become effective.
