Teachers vote on contract

The South Tahoe Educators’ Association voted Thursday on the April 19 tentative salary agreement with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

The results of the vote were not available at the Tahoe Daily Tribune’s press time. The district should learn results Friday, May 5.

“We’ll expect to know (Friday,) so we can put it on the (meeting) agenda,” said Angie Freeman, assistant to the superintendent.

Board President Wendy David said she is optimistic that the agreement will be presented to the board on Tuesday.

If the association ratifies the agreement, the school board will vote on it during its regular board meeting.

“I’m looking forward to (the teachers’) ratification so we can take action on it next week at our board meeting,” David said.

Once the tentative agreement has be ratified by both the teachers and the board, its terms will become effective.

Those terms will cover both the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 school years, as well as the upcoming academic year.
