TRUCKEE – Two felony charges have been filed against the suspect of an alleged rape that occurred March 30 in an area adjacent to Tahoe Truckee High School’s Surprise Stadium.

The teenage suspect, whose name has not been released, is in custody at the Carl F. Bryan II Regional Juvenile Hall in Nevada City awaiting trial, a date for which has been set for early May, according to Nevada County Deputy District Attorney Kenneth Tribby.

Both charges have to do with sexual assault, said Tribby, who was unable to comment any further because both the suspect and the victim in the incident are juveniles.

“Both of the people involved are under the age of 18,” Tribby said, “and I don’t even want to get close to crossing that line.”

Currently the district attorney’s office is waiting for supplemental reports and a follow-up investigation to be submitted.

On the Tahoe Truckee High School campus, rumors about the incident have reportedly been difficult to control. On Sunday, April 4, administrators at the school asked Truckee police officers to respond to students who were posting fliers claiming the rape suspect was innocent, according to Truckee Police Department reports.

Officers on the scene told the students that posting fliers was an inappropriate means of showing support.
