Telephone problems from faulty hardware

Long-distance calling service has been disrupted over the last two days.

A piece of equipment that transmits multiple calls over one of Pacific Bell’s telephone lines was malfunctioning, the phone company’s regional spokeswoman Heather Alexander reported Tuesday.

The disruption may have affected hundreds of callers from South Lake Tahoe to Tahoe City.

PacBell plans to monitor the hardware in the coming days to ensure there’s no interruption of service.
