Temporary lot will occupy motel site

Michael Schneider

Until a multi-level parking structure is built, a temporary parking lot will adorn the demolished Blue Lake Motel site.

Jaye Von Klug, the city’s redevelopment manager, said the lot will hold about 50 cars.

The agency recently demolished the blighted motel to make space for additional parking for the newly-redeveloped Ski Run Marina Village. A multi-level parking structure will be built on the Blue Lake property next construction season, according to Von Klug.

The city hopes to break ground on the parking garage May 1, 1999.

Attorney Dennis Crabb, who represents the marina, recently told the council his clients needed the parking garage to be operational by July 1999.

Von Klug said redevelopment staff will work on plans for the structure and she hopes to get council approval to begin when the snow thaws.

The city plans to charge $3 for summer weekend parking to offset the costs of construction, which is still undetermined.
