Test drive ends in four-car accident
October 7, 2002
One person was injured in a four-car accident after the left wheel of a vehicle came off and bounced over the center barrier into traffic.
Don Ross, 41, of Sparks was on a test drive with an employee of Winkle Pontiac GMC in Reno when the Yukon lost its rear wheel. Ross was driving north on Highway 580 near the Glendale interchange on Friday at 7:05 p.m. when the test drive went downhill.
Joshua Michael Winters, 27, of Sparks was able to swerve to avoid the tire as it bounced into his lane. The tire then struck a red 1992 Chevy pickup driven by 29-year-old Shawn Paul Quinn of Reno.
Keith George Pannell, 30, of Reno did not see Winters’ brake lights go on so his SUV rear-ended the 2002 BMW Winters was driving.
The only person hurt was Ross, who was transported to Washoe Medial Center where he was listed in critical condition.
The investigation is continuing. No citations have been issued.
