Texture artist works live in Raley’s Village gallery this weekend

Adam Stewart likes to work with red and orange colors.

Colorado artist Adam Stewart will be painting this weekend at Marcus Ashley Galleries from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 28-29.

Combining color and texture in response to the force of nature is the core of Adam Stewart’s art.

“I find realism to be more a matter of skill and abstraction to come more from the heart,” Stewart said.

“Mother Earth” is his inspiration. The result is an organic, textured canvas where reds and oranges blaze like the sun and blues cool the canvas like pristine lakes.

Stewart trowels and engraves to create a texture and adds sand, pebbles and small bits of glass beads and other man-made materials including washers, nails, and staples. Then he begins coloring the work with thin washes of pigments, followed still by thicker paint applications. To give the piece more dimensions and stimulate the viewer’s interest, he adds metallic powders and pigments and may mix fine sands into the paint glazes, at times ending up with 10 or more different layers and colors of paint.

Marcus Ashley Galleries is located at Raley’s Village Center. Wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Look for the balloons and “Art Show” banners.
