This week’s Action: Thanksgiving week brings good eats and more (opinion)

Praise be! The greatest American holiday finally arrives later this week, and I know I’m certainly ready to indulge in some of the best foods our nation has to offer. If you’re scrambling to prepare meals, check out our recommendations. All about dessert? No worries, we are too. Learn the best South Shore sweet spots. Thanksgiving is nearing and ski resorts are opening — Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar California are set to open Nov. 23 — so it’s sure to be a fun week.

Here are this week’s top picks:

1. Big Blue Cocktail Contest

It’s the inaugural event for Lake Tahoe Action, and we’re partnering with Tahoe Blue Vodka and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to put on a hot party. Ten bartenders from various locations will compete for best cocktail, so grab your friends and get your drink on — tickets are a great value and include entrance to an after-party headlined by Arden Park Roots.

2. Ski Films

We are in the midst of ski film season — score! Ramp up for Wednesday’s ski resort grand openings with two snow film screenings at Basecamp Hotel on Saturday, Nov. 19. Attendance is free, and there will be great raffle items at the event.

3. Thanksgiving

In the Basin for turkey day? A handful of restaurants are opening their doors to commemorate the holiday with late afternoon buffets. If you prefer to craft your own Thanksgiving meals, don’t forget — we have cookbook and dessert suggestions as well.
